Report of a town meeting held, 18 May 1861, to discuss food shortages need for assistance among families and military dependents following enlistment of family members in Confederate military service. Account of discussion held during early days of Civil War at St. Matthews' Academy (Newberry, S.C.), "to ascertain the necessities of certain families, whose husbands and sons, patriotically, responded to the state['s call] for volunteers... some now very short both of corn and meat" and resolving to solicit funds to benefit those families in need in Newberry, S.C. Committee members listed include Thomas B. Rutherford, William Ruff, and others.
